The seasons
The area around The Blank Top has a lot to offer and each season lays its own accents. This region is worth a visit all year round.
Spring in DE BLANKE TOP
In the Waterdunen nature reserve near Groede, storks, gulls, geese and oystercatchers, among others, breed.
In the Het Zwin visitors' centre you can learn more about the flora and fauna of this special nature reserve between Cadzand and Knokke.
Tastes of the sea: taste the salty flavours of sea lavender and glasswort, two wild vegetables that are typical for the region and grow in soil that is regularly flooded by salt water.
Take a bike ride through the polders and see flowers and plants budding, newborn lambs and trees budding. Set off with a picnic basket specially prepared by us.
Summer in DE BLANKE TOP
A guided excursion through Waterdunen nature reserve. This area is flooded with seawater in a controlled way, giving it a unique flora and fauna.
The lighthouse near Breskens is the oldest one made of cast iron in the Netherlands and dates from 1867. It is open to the public from Friday to Sunday.
In the polders, you can smell the fields of grain, barley or flax.
Several village festivals take place in the area during the summer. The most well-known are the Fishermen's Festivities in Breskens and the annual fair in Groede.
Autumn in DE BLANKE TOP
On windy days, the kitesurfers emerge in Cadzand. This always makes for a fascinating spectacle.
A walking tour along the ramparts of Sluis.
In autumn, the Knokke Zoute Rally takes place, with dozens of classic cars competing against each other.
Winter in DE BLANKE TOP
Looking for shark teeth and tiny crabs on the beach. The Cadzand beaches are known for being the site of shark teeth from Neogen and Palaogen, which are exposed by currents and ebb and flow and wash up on the beach.
Shells grow on the wooden abutments, and small mussels and oysters can be found on the stones.
